Bhubaneswar: A team of Vigilance officials on Thursday unearthed Rs 2 crore in cash from the house of an Assistant Engineer in the State Government. The Vigilance carried out a raid today in this matter over allegations of possession of disproportionate assets.
According to the Vigilance, a huge amount of cash was spotted during a raid on the flat of Kartikeswar Roul and his second wife Kalpana Pradhan in a posh locality in the city. The sleuths had to deploy a counting machine to count the currency.
Searches are on to ascertain the property and assets owned by Roul who works as Assistant Engineer in the office of Executive Engineer, in Bhanjanagar (Ganjam), the Vigilance said.
Earlier this year, the Vigilance had recovered Rs 1.1 crore from the house of a Gynaecologist from Nimapara in Puri. In the same month (March), Rs 1.40 crore was unearthed from the house of a Superintending Engineer in Malkangiri.
“We have enhanced our focus on Benami assets/cash stashed in bank accounts of family members as well as those stacked in houses of close contacts by corrupt Government officials. The Odisha Vigilance remains committed to strong action against corrupt officials,” Director Vigilance, Yashwant K Jethwa said.
