Jajpur: In a heartwarming tale of triumph, a young man from Jajpur has achieved the unthinkable by getting selected for a coveted PhD programme at the renowned Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, USA.
Hailing from Mangalpur village in Jajpur district, Anshuman’s remarkable journey is a testament to his unwavering dedication, perseverance, and passion for learning. Despite the odds, he has secured a spot among the brightest minds in the world, making his family, village, and state proud.
Anshuman’s achievement is all the more remarkable, as he becomes only the second Indian to be selected for this prestigious programme. The cherry on top is that the university will cover all his expenses, recognizing his exceptional talent and potential.

From childhood, Anshuman’s zeal for study has distinguished him from other students. His early interest in learning and his consistent hard work have paved the way for his future success. His curiosity and passion for knowledge have driven him to explore and excel in various subjects, setting him apart from his peers, sources said.
He passed out Class X examination with flying colours from Jawaharlal Nehru Navodaya School in 2016. After passing the Plus II exam from the same institution with a good percentile, Anshuman got admission in NISER to pursue an Integrated M.Sc. He came in contact with Professor Satyaprasad Senanayak while pursuing an Integrated MSc and got a chance to do research in Nanoelectronics and Device Physics.
Anshuman lost his father Ashok Sahu, who was a shopkeeper, in Covid in 2020. However, he did not get distracted from his ambition. With the support and encouragement from his mother Smruti and uncle, Anshuman managed to carve a niche for himself in the field of research.
Without exaggeration, it can be said that his selection for PhD research at Carnegie Mellon University is a testament to his dedication and perseverance.
Talking about his success journey, Anshuman said, “After clearing Class X and Class XII examinations with good percentile, I took training for a year which was sponsored by Odisha Mining Corporation before joining NISER to pursue the five-year integrated course. There I got the chance to do research under the tutelage of Dr Satyaprasad Senanayak. I used to research the properties of organic semiconductors and design transistors using the semiconductors. I will be leaving for Carnegie Mellon University to pursue further research in the same subject”.
