Balasore: A major train accident of the Baripada Express was averted at Nilagiri Road in Balasore district early on Wednesday morning due to the timely action by the locals.

The Baripada Express was going over the railway track which had expanded by 2 inches at Khan Nagar check gate, 200 metres away from the station. Some local people noticed the disrupted railway track in the wee hours and informed the railway authorities, who in turn stopped the Express train in time and averted a major mishap.

The train reportedly stopped at the spot for an hour till the railway track was temporarily repaired and resumed its movement towards its destination post the repair work.

There is strict instruction for the trains to move on that track at 20 km per hour until the track is permanently repaired, according to sources.
