Soro: A youth allegedly involved in peddling of brown sugar was nabbed by vigilant villagers in Pathan Mahalla under Soro block in Balasore district and handed over to the Excise Department on Friday.
The accused, identified as Rahimat Alli of Itua village, was reportedly caught red-handed while selling brown sugar to a group of local youths Pathan Mohalla,. According to sources, alert villagers confined Rahimat inside a house and immediately informed the Soro police and Excise officials.
A team from the Soro Excise Department reached the spot soon after and took the accused into custody. Excise officials seized over 100 grams of brown sugar from his possession.
An investigation is underway to trace the supply chain and identify others involved in the racket.
