Bargarh: Hundreds of villagers including women of Remta panchayat under Barpalli block in Bargarh district today staged a demonstration in front of the Collector’s office demanding holding of polls for the Sarpanch post.
The villagers have submitted a memorandum to the Collector in this regard and threatened to boycott Zilla Parishad polls if their demand is not met.
According to reports, four candidates had filed their nominations to contest for the post of Sarpanch in Remta panchayat.
Following mutual negotiations between the four, three of the candidates contesting for the Sarpanch post withdrew their nominations without consulting their supporters.
Thus leaving a single candidate for the Sarpanch post who has been declared elected unopposed.
