Sundargarh: Some forest officials were thrashed by villagers after two tuskers damaged several houses and paddy crops in Bonai range of Sundargarh district.
Reportedly, the elephants had been wreaking havoc in the area for the past one-and-a-half-months. They have damaged over 100 houses in 30 to 40 villages of the region.
Upset over it, the villagers had demanded senior forest department officials to take the elephants to another place by tranquilizing them.
As the elephants were not taken to another place and again damaged property in the area, the forest department staff engaged in warding off the elephant were thrashed by the villagers.
On the other hand, Bonai Ranger Manoj Patra said that we are warding off the elephants and compensation will also be provided against the damage but the decision to tranquilize the elephant is not in his hand.
