Bhubaneswar: A power outage at the Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR) in Burla left the cancer ward in darkness for several hours, putting the lives of critically ill patients at risk.
As per reports, the power cut affected patients who were undergoing chemotherapy. With the backup generator not functioning, doctors on duty were forced to use mobile torches to administer treatment to patients.
The power outage lasted from 12 pm to 3 pm, leaving patients and hospital staffers in a state of panic. The incident has raised questions about the hospital’s preparedness during emergencies and the lack of backup power systems.
It is learnt that the electricity department abruptly cut off the power supply to the hospital without issuing any prior notice or warning, leaving the patients in a state of panic and chaos.
The cancer ward is a critical care unit where patients are treated for life-threatening diseases. The power outage has put the lives of these patients at risk, and an investigation into the incident has been demanded.
