Bhubaneswar: Condemning the brutal late-night attack inside Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) campus, in strong words Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik spoke out against the violence.
Taking to popular micro-blogging site, CM Naveen tweeted, “Shocked to know about the violent #JNUattack. Violence has no space in democracy and such attacks on students must be condemned unequivocally. Appeal law enforcement agencies to take swift action to apprehend the culprits and wish the injured students a speedy recovery.”
While several Twitterati hailed Naveen for voicing his viewpoint in this topic, there were several others who criticized hi, for not taking this matter up with the central government.
On Sunday night, several masked individuals, both male and female, thrashed students, including girls, and teachers inside the JNU campus with wooden and metal rods, injuring many.
While the number of the injured in the various clashes which occurred through the day was not yet known, at least 34 students were admitted to the AIIMS with severe injuries, including JNU Students Union President Aishe Ghosh – who was reportedly hit over the eye with an iron rod.
