Bhubaneswar: The lower PMG area witnessed a violent scuffle as the BJP Yuva Morcha activists attempted to barge towards the State Assembly, in session. As many as 21 police personnel were injured and five police vehicles were damaged.
The youth BJP members came in a mass rally and broke barricades while proceeding towards the Assembly, in a protest over the law and order situation in the state and murder of Naba Kisore Das. DG Police Sunil Bansal and Police Commissioner Saumendra Priyadarshi visited Capital Hospital and met the injured cops today afternoon.
Priyadarshi said, “Hundreds of BJP workers marched towards the Vidhan Sabha, we tried to stop them. During this time, the BJP workers attacked the cops on duty. As many as 21 police personnel including ACP-ranked officers were injured,”
“We realised that the agitators were all prepared to attack the police, it was pre-planned. They have damaged more than five police vehicles,” he added. Police resorted to lathicharge to control the situation, but soon after the activists pelted stones and eggs at the cops, DCP Prateek Singh said.
Some of the agitators were also injured in the clash. The protestors were later taken into preventive custody by the Police.
