**Puri:** A video of the September 28 incident, when police had allegedly lathi-charged on journalists covering a clash between public and employees of Khuntia Petrol Pump in Puri, has gone viral on social media.
In the footage, Deputy Commandant Lingaraj Mishra is seen wearing a green shirt and can be heard of ordering the force to lathi-charge.
Reportedly, nine journalists had been injured in the lathi-charge. Police did not spare the journalists even after showing ID-cards.
Following the incident, Puri journalists had taken to streets and had lodged nine FIRs on behalf of the injured journalists at Kumbharpada police station.
They had demanded immediate dismissal and arrest of the accused police personnel. Besides, they demanded the State Government should provide compensation to the injured journalists and frame a law for protection of journalists.
Puri Collector Jyotiprakash Das had said that he will hold a discussion with the Puri SP on following a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) in future to avoid such incidents.
Puri SP Sarthak Sarangi had also assured of taking action against the persons responsible if police excess is detected. Besides, he informed that the State Government will bear treatment cost of the injured journalists.
