Bhubaneswar: Days after a video allegedly showing the statement of the Balanga minor girl being recorded during her treatment went viral on social media, Puri Superintendent of Police Pinak Mishra on Sunday said the matter is under active investigation.
He confirmed that the Cyber Cell is probing how such a sensitive and confidential video was leaked and circulated online.
The video was purportedly recorded while the minor girl was undergoing treatment at AIIMS, New Delhi.
“We are investigating how this video, which should have remained confidential, found its way onto social media. We are trying to trace its source and identify those responsible for leaking and sharing it,” said Puri SP Mishra while addressing the media.
The SP stressed that the police have sought assistance from the Crime Branch’s Cyber Crime team to track the origin of the video and take appropriate action.
“This is a sensitive matter and the circulation of such content not only affects the dignity of the victim but also compromises the integrity of the investigation,” he said.
He clarified that the victim’s final statement was recorded in the presence of a Judicial Magistrate, following all due legal procedures, and with transparency.
“The statement was officially requisitioned and documented to maintain procedural integrity. The victim’s family was also informed throughout the process,” Mishra added.
The tragic incident took place on July 19 in the Balanga area of Puri district. The minor girl, who sustained critical injuries, was initially treated at a local hospital before being shifted to AIIMS Bhubaneswar and later to AIIMS New Delhi. She succumbed to her injuries on August 2.
SP Mishra reiterated that the investigation into the case is in its final stage. “We are awaiting final forensic reports and other key documentation, after which the case will be submitted to the court,” he said.
Puri SP Mishra urged the public not to engage in the circulation of sensitive content.
“I request everyone to refrain from sharing or reacting to such videos on social media. This kind of material should not be made public, especially when it involves the privacy of a minor victim,” Mishra appealed.
