Visionary Educationist Dr Bijaya Kumar Sahoo Consigned To Flames With Full State Honours

Bhubaneswar: The last rites of noted educationist and Advisor of Odisha Adarsha Vidyalaya Sangathan, Dr Bijaya Kumar Sahoo were conducted at Satya Nagar crematorium here on Friday.

The funeral was a low-key ceremony held amid Covid guidelines in the presence of representatives from the State Government, family, friends, well-wishers, and staff of SAI International Education Group.

Earlier in the day, Sahoo’s body arrived at Biju Patnaik International Airport from Hyderabad. At the Bhubaneswar airport, Secretary to CM (5T) VK Pandian, Secretary, Mission Shakti Department Sujata R Karthikeyan, Police Commissioner Saumendra Priyadarshi, and family members received the remains of the visionary edupreneur.

The body was taken to his residence at Shastri Nagar where family and friends paid their final tributes to Dr Sahoo. In the late afternoon, the cremation (rites) was carried out at Satya Nagar as per Hindu traditions.

Dr Sahoo passed away at a private hospital in Hyderabad on Thursday. He was suffering from post-Covid complications and was under ECMO support.

Sahoo is survived by wife Silpi Sahoo, daughter Vijisha and twin sons Vishal Aditya and Vikram Aditya. He was one of the pioneers in shaping the modern education system at schools in Odisha.

Sahoo was the founder of SAI International Education Group comprising SAI International School, SAI Angan, SAI International Residential School, and SAI International College of Commerce.

He was elevated to the status of Minister of State after the State government appointed him as the Advisor and working president of Odisha Adarsha Vidyalaya Sangathan.

In his demise, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik said, “As advisor of Odisha Adarsha Vidyalaya Sangathan, he had a pioneering role in transforming government school education.”
