Cuttack: A dreaded criminal was injured in an encounter by police at Asureswar under Nischintakoili police station in Cuttack district on Saturday night.
A team of police was patrolling in Asureshwar area last night. Police were tipped off that notorious criminal Lipu alia Sushant Sahu along with his associates were planning to commit a major crime. The police team raided the place where the criminals were present.
During the raid, Lipu first opened two rounds of fire at police forces. Sub-inspector Tapan Nayak also retaliated in self-defence in which Lipu suffered bullet injuries on his left leg.
Police captured him and took him to Nischintkoili Community Health Centre and later shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack for better treatment.
Lipu, a resident of Tirtol of Jagatsinghpur district, has 54 criminal cases pending in different police stations in Cuttack and Jagatsinghpur districts.
