Wanted Criminal Injured In Police Encounter In Odisha's Kendrapara

Kendrapara: Wanted criminal Bijoy Nayak, who was involved in the murder of gangster Suleiman in 2009, was injured in a police encounter near Kajala in Kendrapara district on Wednesday.

Bijoy was on the run since long and was living under a false identity. He has changed his name as Ganesh Das in his Aadhaar card and other identity cards.

Acting on a tip-off about the presence of Bijoy in Kajala, a joint police team under supervision of Sadar IIC Maheswar Sethi and special squad Inspector PK Kanungo raided the place. In a bid to escape, Bijoy opened fire at the cops.

During retaliation by the policemen, he sustained bullet injuries on his left leg. He was first rushed to the district headquarters hospital and later shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack.

There are over 50 cases registered in the name of Bijoy including the murder of Suleiman. He alongwith three of his associates had shot dead Suleiman on July 30, 2009. While three accused were arrested earlier, Nayak was absconding over these years.

It is the third encounter in Kendrapara in the last two months. Earlier on February 19, notorious criminal Ganesh Mallick, who was absconding since 2015, sustained injuries in an encounter with police at Halpur Chhak under Sadar police limits.

Further on February 24, notorious criminal dreaded criminal Debiprasad Das alias Litu was injured and subsequently nabbed near Tikhiri-Boudha office road under Marshaghai police limits.
