Bhubaneswar: As part of its Seasonal Outlook for March to May 2022, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Tuesday forecast a higher probability of occurrence of heat wave over west central and some parts of northwest India.
Nights are very likely to be warmer than the days during March to May, in Odisha, the other states on the Indo-Gangetic plain and southern India, the Indian Meteorological Department’s forecast for the next three months revealed.
While the days have started warming up in Bhubaneswar, and several other cities of Odisha, pointing at a tough summer, the IMD has predicted that the Indo-Gangetic plains, will have below normal temperature probabilities. Heat wave conditions are not likely, it stated.
“Normal or below normal maximum temperatures have been forecast over Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Odisha, West Bengal, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala and Tamil Nadu,” the IMD said.
Currently, La Nina conditions are prevailing over the equatorial Pacific region. The La Nina is likely to weaken during the northern hemisphere spring season and to reach cold ENSO neutral conditions during the second quarter of 2022, the IMD stated.
On the other hand, there was no respite from heat in different parts of the State on Tuesday. At least 7 stations recorded maximum temprature above 35 degrees Celcius on March 1, with Boudh highest at 36.5 degrees. Similarly, all stations recorded maximum temprature above 30 degrees on Tuesday, the IMD data revealed.
