Watch: Connectivity To Several Places Cut Off In Odisha Following Incessant Rains

**Malkangiri**: Incessant rains, pounding since last night, have abysmally disrupted road connectivity in the tribal-dominated district of Malkangiri in southern Odisha. Two main bridges in the area have been inundated.

Road communication between Malkangiri and Balimela was disrupted after water flowed over the M.V 37 bridge in Korakonda today morning. As a result, water has entered three villages of the Khairput area.

Another bridge in the M.V 11 village has also been inundated under water since last night. At least 10 feet of water is flowing over the bridges making it impossible for the local people to go from one place to another.

Adding to their woes, a diversion road of an under-construction bridge has also been washed away at Govindpali disrupting communication between Koraput’s Jeypore and Malkangiri. Hundreds of vehicles stood marooned on both sides of the bridges.

Malkangiri district administration is yet to reach out to the stranded places.

Meanwhile, the inauguration of the Gurupriya Setu, set to solve connectivity issue in the cut-off area of Chitrakonda assembly segment of the district, has also been postponed due to bad weather.

People in the district of Kandhamal are also facing connectivity issues as a bridge in the Bastingia village has been inundated in rain water. At least five feet of water is flowing over the bridge, and as a result of that the only route between Chakapada and Tikabali blocks has become nonoperational. Transportation has come to a complete halt throwing normal life out of gear.

The Regional Meteorological Department has further predicted low pressure on the Bay of Bengal from July 21 onwards with ‘heavy to very heavy’ rainfall in coastal and interior parts of the State.
