**Keonjhar:** After sustained efforts to rescue two wild elephants from a trench in Singhpur under Juangpir forest range here today morning, a forester sustained severe injuries from the blows of one of the jumbos and was rushed to Keonjhar DHH for treatment.
The injured forester has been identified as Tikeswar Mahant.
The incident occurred in the wee hours of the day when the forest officials received information that two jumbos had fallen into a trench full of stormwater and were unable to climb up. A team of Bansapal forest personnel reached the spot along with ODRAF team and immediately began the rescue operation.
During the operation, the smaller among the two jumbos was able to climb up on its own and started running haywire causing panic amongst the officials. Mahant, who ran to save his life, was caught in muddy ground and taking advantage of the situation the jumbo trampled on him causing grievous injuries.
His condition was stated to be critical when last reports came in.
Reportedly, it took the teams three hours to rescue the other elephant from the trench.
