**Keonjhar:** Standing true to the Hippocratic oath, a lady doctor at the District Headquarters Hospital here on Saturday used her presence of mind and performed preliminary operation on a woman patient who needed immediate surgery, with the help of a mobile-torch in the absence of electricity.
Reportedly the patient, whose identity is yet to be ascertained, was found by the police near OMC rest house under Barbil police limits last evening in a critical condition. The cops rescued her and rushed her to Keonjhar DHH to treat the grievous injuries on her head, neck and body.
Power cut in DHH did not stand as a roadblock for the lady Emergency Officer, who immediately performed preliminary operation using mobile-torch light.
“She had injuries on her neck affecting her windpipe. So, our Lady Emergency Officer Doctor Pati had to immediately perform preliminary operation here. After that, we have referred the patient to SCB in Cuttack,” said Dr A K Dey, Senior Consultant of Surgery.
While locals have praised Pati for her presence of mind and dedication towards duty, some persons have also raised questions on why wasn’t any electrical substitute like a generator available in the DHH at all times.
