Jajpur: The prompt act of a couple of level-headed commuters prevented a woman from committing suicide here today morning. The mishap was about to occur on the bridge over river Baitarani in Akhuapada under Panikoili police limits.
A young woman scaled up the bridge’s barrier and was standing there for sometime, contemplating suicide. On noticing this, a couple of passersby halted and initiated a discussion with the woman.
The presence of mind and wisdom of the good Samaritans prevented her from jumping into the river. They first kept her engaged in a discussion and finally cajoled her to quit the extreme step. The spine-chilling ordeal to convince the woman lasted for more than six minutes.
According to reports, the woman is newly married and belongs to Keonjhar district. The locals took her to the local police station where the cops interacted and collected her details. An inquiry has been iniated in this matter, reports added.
