Bhubaneswar: The water level in the Hirakud dam in Odisha’s Sambalpur district is rising rapidly due to heavy rains in the upper catchment area of the reservoir. According to a notification issued by the office of the Special Relief Commissioner (SRC), the water level in the dam stood at 615.21 feet at 8.00 am on Friday.
Currently, the inflow into the dam is 3.33 lakh cusec, while the outflow is 0.66 lakh cusec. Only two of the 98 sluice gates of the reservoir are open now, the notification said.
About 7.43 lakh cusecs of water have discharged from the dam at Mundali today.
The water level at the reservoir stood at 614.60 feet by 6.00 am today. The inflow and outflow were 4,32,808 cusecs and 67,690 cusecs respectively at that time.
