Bhubaneswar: After a brief lull, the water level in the Hirakud Dam in Odisha’s Sambalpur district has been increasing significantly due to the continuous inflow of water into the reservoir.
Officials said on Tuesday that the water inflow increased significantly in Hirakud Dam following heavy rainfall in the upper catchment area of the Mahanadi River in Odisha and Chhattisgarh.
The inflow into Hirakud Dam was 2,74,849 cusec while the outflow was 2,46,765 cusec of water at 6.00 am on Tuesday. The water level at Hirakud Dam stood at 610.17 ft against the full reservoir level of 630 ft.
Currently, the dam authorities are releasing the water through 14 gates of the dam – 10 on the left and 4 on the right.
The authorities opened 20 sluice gates of the total 67 gates of the Hirakud Dam to release the first flood water of this monsoon in July.
