Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow warning for Odisha, forecasting thunderstorms and heavy winds across the state from April 1 to 5.
The warning indicates that thunderstorms with lightning and gusty surface wind speeds are likely to occur in various districts across the state.
According to the IMD prediction for April 1, thunderstorms with wind speeds of 30-40 kmph are expected in Koraput, Malkangiri, Nabarangapur, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Boudh, Angul, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar and Rayagada.
On April 2, a yellow warning has been issued for Koraput, Malkangiri, Nabarangapur, Rayagada, Kalahandi, Nuapada, Balangir, Kandhamal, Boudh, and Angul. These districts are likely to witness thunderstorms and lightning with gusty wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph.
“Thunderstorm with lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Koraput, Malkangiri, Nabarangapur, Rayagada, Kalahandi, Nuapada, Bolangir, Kandhamal, Boudh and Angul”, read the IMD prediction for April 2.
For April 3, the regional weather office predicted thunderstorms with wind speeds of 40-50 kmph in Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Bargarh, Boudh, Sonepur, Balangir, Nuapada, Kalahandi, Nabarangapur, and Koraput.
On April 4, a yellow warning has been issued for Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nabarangapur, Rayagada, Koraput, and Malkangiri. These districts will likely to witness wind speeds expected to reach 50-60 kmph.
On April 5, thunderstorms with wind speeds of 50-60 kmph are predicted in Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, and Gajapati.
