Bhubaneswar: Odisha is bracing for a week-long spell of rain starting April 8 as a low-pressure area over the south Bay of Bengal intensified and moved northwestward, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
As per IMD prediction, under the impact of the low pressure, several Odisha districts are likely to receive light to moderate showers in several regions, bringing relief from soaring temperatures.
Going by IMD prediction, Mayurbhanj and Keonjhar districts are expected to receive light rainfall today. On April 9, districts going to be affected by the weather conditions are Sundargarh, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Nabarangapur, Mayurbhanj and Keonjhar. The impending rain spell in Odisha is also expected to be accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds.
The Regional Meteorological Department has warned of thunderstorms and gusty winds accompanying the showers, with peak activity expected around April 10 and 11.
Under the influence of low pressure, daytime temperatures are anticipated to decrease by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius, providing relief from the heat.
However, the rain spell is expected to persist through April 12 and 13, with varying levels of intensity across different regions of Odisha.
