Bhubaneswar: The low pressure area (LPA) over coastal Odisha and neighbourhood is taking shape of a well marked LPA over south coastal Odisha and neighbourhood, the Indian Meteorological Department informed.
According to the IMD, heavy to very heavy rainfall (7 to 20 cms) is very likely to occur at isolated places over the districts of Koraput, Malkangiri, Nawarangpur, Nuapada, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Bolangir, Ganjam and Nayagarh.
The Met Department has issued an Orange Warning along with the forecast. The heavy rains may cause landslides/mudslides in vulnerable hilly areas, and result in water logging in low-lying areas.
Similarly, heavy rainfall is very likely to occur in Rayagada, Gajapati, Khordha, Puri, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Boudh, Sonepur, Bargarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, and Keonjhar districts during the next 24 hours.
Under the influence of the well-marked LPA and strong monsoon flow, squally weather with gusty surface wind speed reaching 45 to 55 kmph is very likely over sea off Odisha coast, IMD’s afternoon bulletin stated.
“Fishermen are advised not to venture into sea off Odisha coast adjoining areas of West-Central and Northwest Bay of Bengal till July 16,” the IMD warned.
