Bhubaneswar: A well-marked low-pressure area persists over the west-central and adjoining southwest Bay of Bengal, with its associated cyclonic circulation extending up to middle tropospheric levels.
The system is expected to move nearly northwards over the west-central Bay of Bengal for the next 12 hours, maintaining its intensity as a well-marked low-pressure area. Thereafter, it is likely to reserve north-northeastwards and weaken gradually over the central Bay of Bengal over the subsequent 24 hours.
A trough runs from southeast Madhya Pradesh to east Gangetic West Bengal across Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand at 0.9 km above mean sea level. Light to moderate rainfall occurred at isolated places over the districts of Koraput, Rayagada, Deogarh, Kalahandi, Ganjam, and Puri in south Odisha and north interior Odisha, while dry weather prevailed over the rest of the districts in Odisha.
Temperatures in Odisha were below normal by 2-3°C at many places over coastal Odisha and at isolated places over interior Odisha. Temperatures were above normal by 2°C at a few places over coastal Odisha and normal elsewhere. The highest maximum temperature of 41.9°C was recorded at Boudh, and the lowest minimum temperature of 19.8°C was recorded at Bhadrak.
The weather agency has predicted light to moderate rain or thunderstorms likely to occur in the afternoon/evening hours at isolated places over several districts in Odisha today and tomorrow. The affected districts include Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Mayurbhanj, Sundargarh, Rayagada, Koraput, and Malkangiri. Dry weather is expected to prevail over the remaining districts in Odisha.
