Bhubaneswar: Security concerns have once again surfaced at the revered Puri Jagannath Temple after a devotee was apprehended on Tuesday for attempting to enter the temple premises with a spy camera concealed in his spectacles.
The persons has been identified as Pratish Pal, a resident of Paschim Bardhaman district in West Bengal.
According to reports, Pal was intercepted by security personnel at the western gate (Vyaghra Dwara) of the temple after his suspicious spectacles were detected during routine checks.
Upon investigation, it was found that the spectacles contained a hidden camera. Pal was immediately apprehended. His mobile phone has been seized and the spy camera-equipped spectacles were also confiscated.
Just a day prior to this incident, another youth from Gujarat, identified as Vipul Patel, was caught using a similar spy camera inside the temple. He too is currently in custody.
In a related case last week, a local devotee, Abhijit Kar, was found recording visuals of the deities using a spy camera hidden in the frame of his spectacles. During interrogation, Kar admitted to filming the interiors of the sanctum. Police deleted the footage from his device and released him after obtaining a written undertaking.
