Bhubaneswar: As many 18 places in Odisha recorded maximum day temperature of 40°Celsius and above today.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD) Sambalpur was the hottest place with maximum day temperature of 44.3°C followed by Hirakud 43.7°C, Jharsuguda 43.4°C, Sundargarh & Deogarh 42.8°C each, Rourkela 42.6°C, Bolangir 42.5°C, Boudh 42.5°C, Nuapada 42.0°C, Angul 41.7°C, Bargarh 41.6°C, Sonepur 41.3°C, Talcher 41°C, Phulbani 41.0°C, Malkangiri 41°C, Baripada 40.5°C, Keonjhar 40.1°C, and Titlagarh 40.0°C.
The twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack recorded maximum day temperature of 34.2°C and 35.8°C respectively.
While temperature across coastal Odisha recorded a fall following showers on Monday evening and in the morning today bringing relief to the people, the western part of the state sizzled under heat wave conditions throwing life out of gear.
