Bhubaneswar: Odisha is expected to experience a mixed weather pattern in the coming days, with coastal regions anticipating thunderstorms and heavy rainfall, while western parts of the state will face scorching heat.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow warning for several districts, including Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore, Ganjam, Gajapati, Koraput, and Nabarangapur predicting light to moderate rainfall.
In contrast, western Odisha districts such as Boudh, Sonepur, Sambalpur and Balangir will likely experience extreme heat with temperatures soaring up to 40-41°C.
According to the IMD’s forecast, the monsoon season is expected to bring normal rainfall to the country. In Odisha, the monsoon season is likely to be normal, with increased rainfall in June.
However, coastal and north Odisha are expected to receive normal or slightly less rainfall in July and August. In contrast, south Odisha is forecasted to experience good rainfall in September, IMD DG Mrutyunjay Mohapatra said.
Several factors are contributing to this favourable monsoon prediction. The snow cover area in the northern hemisphere and Eurasia region was less from December to February, which is expected to positively impact the monsoon. Typically, excessive snow cover in the Eurasian region leads to less monsoon rainfall, but this year’s reduced snow cover may result in a more than-normal monsoon, he added.
