Wet Spell To Continue In Odisha For Next 5 Days With Isolated Heavy To Very Heavy Rainfall

Bhubaneswar: Wet spells of monsoon rainfall activity is likely to continue over Odisha with isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall for the next five days, the Meteorological Centre here under the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has said in a special bulletin.

A cyclonic circulation lies over Northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining north Odisha-Gangetic West Bengal coasts and extends up to 5.8 km above mean sea level tilting southwards with height. It is likely to move westnorthwestwards across north Odisha and adjoining Gangetic West Bengal & Jharkhand during next 2-3 days.

Another fresh cyclonic circulation is likely to form over Northwest Bay of Bengal around 18th July, 2023.

The IMD has said that in view of the above meteorological features, wet spells of monsoon rainfall activity is likely to continue over Odisha with isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall. The details forecast for next five days as follows:

Forecast for next Five days:

Day-1 :(Valid up to 0830 Hrs IST of 16.07.2023)

Light to moderate rain/thundershower is very likely to occur at most places over the districts of Odisha.

Day-2:(Valid from 0830 Hrs IST of 16.07.2023to 0830 Hrs IST of 17.07.2023)

Light to moderate rain/thundershower very likely to occur at most places over the districts of interior Odisha and at many places over the districts of coastal Odisha .

Day-3:(Valid from 0830 Hrs IST of 17.07.2023to 0830 Hrs IST of 18.07.2023)

Light to moderate rain/thundershower is very likely to occur at many places over the districts of Odisha.

Day-4:(Valid from 0830 Hrs IST of 18.07.2023to 0830 Hrs IST of 19.07.2023)

Light to moderate rain/thundershower very likely to occur at most places over the districts of coastal Odisha and at many places over the districts of interior Odisha .

Day-5:(Valid from 0830 Hrs IST of 19.07.2023to 0830 Hrs IST of 20.07.2023)

Light to moderate rain/thundershower is very likely to occur at most places over the districts of south Odisha and at many places over the districts of north Odisha.

Heavy rainfall warning for next five days as follows:

Day-1: (Valid up to 0830 Hrs IST of 16.07.2023)

Heavy Rainfall Warning: Orange warning (Be Prepared)

Heavy to Very Heavy Rainfall (7 to 20cm) very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, and Sambalpur.

Impact and action suggested

  1. Temporarily water logging likely in low lying areas.
  2. Poor visibility during intense spell of rain and traffic congestion in urban areas.
  3. Possibility of wall collapse of vulnerable kutchha houses.
  4. Traffic advisory may be seen for movement in your destination.
  5. Arrangements for drainage of excess water from nursery bed, and preparations for sowing of paddy crops may be done.

Yellow Warning (Be updated)

Heavy Rainfall(7 to 11cm) very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Khurda, Puri, Ganjam, Nayagarh, Boudh, Kandhamal, Sonepur, Bolangir, Kalahandi, Nuapada and Nawarangapur.

Day-2: (Valid from 0830 Hrs IST of 16.07.2023to 0830 Hrs IST of 17.07.2023.)

Orange warning (Be Prepared)

Heavy to Very Heavy Rainfall (7 to 20cm) is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Nuapada, Kalahandi, Nawarangapur, and Koraput.

Impact and action suggested

  1. Temporarily water logging is likely in low-lying areas.
  2. Poor visibility during intense spells of rain and traffic congestion in urban areas.

Heavy Rainfall (7 to 11cm) is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Nawarangapur, Nuapada, Kalahandi, Rayagada, Kandhamal, Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Jagatsinghpur, and Kendrapara.

Day-4: (Valid from 0830 Hrs IST of 18.07.2023to 0830 Hrs IST of 19.07.2023))

Heavy Rainfall (7 to 11cm) is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Puri, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Kendrapara, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Bargarh, Jharsuguda, and Sundargarh.

Day-5: (Valid from 0830 Hrs IST of 19.07.2023to 0830 Hrs IST of 20.07.2023)

Heavy Rainfall (7 to 11cm) very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Malkangiri, Koraput, Nawarangapur, Kalahandi, Rayagada, and Kandhamal.
