Bhubaneswar: A youth was admitted to the District Headquarters Hospital in Bhadrak after reportedly being bitten by a snake he had caught and was carrying around his neck. The incident occurred in the Banta area of Bhadrak district.
The injured youth has been identified as Subal Sahu.
According to reports, Subal spotted a white snake while eating at home and caught it without getting bitten. Encouraged, he wrapped the snake around his neck and was walking around when it bit his right hand.
Subal’s relatives rushed him to the Bhadrak District Headquarters Hospital, where doctors struggled to identify the snake species. The snake was brought to the hospital for identification, but doctors couldn’t recognize it.
Later, Snake Helpline’s members identified the snake as an albino banded krait, a rare and highly venomous species. The delay in identification led to a delay in administering the right antidote, worsening Subal’s condition. He’s currently undergoing treatment, and his condition is stated to be critical.
