Bhubaneswar: A white tiger, ‘Subhranshu’ of the Nandankanan Zoological Park on the outskirts of the city here succumbed to its illness today.
According to Nandankanan Zoo sources, the big cat which was ailing for nearly a month passed away at around quarter past ten today morning.
Subhranshu was suffering from blood protozoan disease and was under intensive care and treatment of the zoo’s in-house veterinarians, the sources added.
The sources however, maintained that the exact cause of the death of the animal will be known after post-mortem which will be conducted in the afternoon.
This five-year-old male white tiger-Subhranshu was born to Royal Bengal Tiger Maneesh and white tigress Sneha on July 25, 2014.
With the death of Subhranshu the zoo now has 25 tigers in total -12 male and 13 female.
Subhranshu was a major draw of Nandankanan Zoological Park.
It may be mentioned here that Subhranshu has not been keeping well since last couple of days. It was first found to be unwell on September 22 and subsequently suffered from diarrhea on Saturday.
It had stopped its food intake and continued to lay at one place since Saturday leaving the zoo authorities in a fix, the sources revealed.
