Bhubaneswar: In a delightful news for wildlife enthusiasts, Nandankanan Zoo’s white tigress Mousumi has given birth to two adorable cubs. The cubs were born last night at 9:15 pm and 11:03 pm respectively in the 28-B enclosure.
According to the zoo authorities, the cubs are the result of mating between Mousumi and a red-colour tiger named Rajesh, which took place on February 27 and 28. Mousumi, born on August 5, 2016, is the offspring of a common red-colour tiger named Manish and a white-colour tiger named Sneha. Rajesh, born on September 22, 2018, is the offspring of a common red-colour tiger named Roshan and a white-colour tiger named Vijaya.
With the arrival of these two new cubs, the total number of big cats at Nandankanan Zoo has increased to 29, including 17 big cats and 10 tigresses. The zoo currently houses 6 white tigers, 3 royal Bengal tigers, and 4 rare black tigers. The genders of the new cubs have not been identified yet.
