Bhubaneswar: A wild boar attack left two persons including a minor boy critically injured in Talcher’s Mandalpada area on Thursday morning.
The victims, identified as 60-year-old Chaturi Naik and 10-year-old Raja Naik, are reportedly neighbours.
According to eyewitnesses, the wild boar entered Chaturi’s house out of nowhere while she was working. The boar attacked her inflicting severe injuries.
Upon hearing Chaturi’s screams, family members rushed to her aid, prompting the boar to enter the house of Raja, a neighbour of Chaturi and attacked him as well leaving him critically injured.
Locals managed to capture and lock the boar inside a room.
The injured Chaturi and Raja have been rushed to a government hospital near Mandapal in Talcher for treatment. Their condition is stated to be critical.
Till the last report came in, no forest department official reached the scene to take stock of the situation.
In a separate incident, as many as four persons were injured after being attacked by boars at Dahani Gadia village under Brahmagiri Range in Puri district.
The incident occurred early Thursday morning when two boars stormed into the village, attacking anyone in their path. The victims are Nabakishore Pradhan, Sukanti Sethi, Sahadev Mistri, and Sitakant Mishra.
Nabakishore sustained severe injuries and is undergoing treatment at Puri District Headquarters Hospital. The three others have returned home after primary treatment at Rebana Nuagaon Community Health Centre.
A team from Brahmagiri Forest Division and Brahmagiri Police rushed to the spot to investigate and alerted villagers to remain cautious.
