Balasore: The Block Education Officer of Khaira block, Narayan Das, has ordered the closure of 10 schools in Mahatipur, Nuasahi, Shundira Gandibeda, and Anderei as a precautionary measure to avoid any untoward incident due to the movement of a wild elephant in the Soro-Hati region.
It is pertinent to mention that the elephant, which strayed into villages in search of food, has killed an elderly person, Surendra Das, and injured two others in Purbapada village. The pachyderm was spotted wandering in Notapada and Bateswar villages, damaging trees and chasing locals.
Upon being informed, the Kupari and Oupada forest ranges officials rushed to the spot and launched efforts to drive the animal back into the forest. However, fear still grips residents as the pachyderm is still reported to be in the vicinity.
Given the tense situation, Block Education Officer Narayan Das, on the District Education Officer’s orders, shut 10 schools in Mahatipur, Nuasahi, Shundira Gandibeda, and Anderei.
