Bhubaneswar: An elderly woman was trampled to death in Tnguri Reserve Forest under Badamba Range in Athagarh, on Tuesday.
The deceased has been identified as Gayadhar Dehuri, a resident of Khalimati village under Badamba police limits.
According to sources, the elderly woman had gone to Tanguri Reserve Forest to collect wood on Tuesday. As she delayed returning home, her family members made a frantic search for her.
They informed the forest department after they failed to trace Gayadhar.
Forest officials found her mutilated body lying in the forest and seized it. It is suspected from the circumstantial evidence that the woman died after being attacked by an elephant.
“The body has been sent to Badamba Community Health Centre for post-mortem. Her kin will be provided ex-gratia as per the government provision”, said forester Krushna Chandra Swain.
