Wild Jumbo On Dhenkanal Town Outskirts, Denizens On Toes

Dhenkanal: As a tusker has been frequenting Shyamacharanpur area on the outskirts of the district headquarters town here and has made the Sai Mandir area its bastion for the last two days, the denizens have turned panicky and spending sleepless nights.

The tusker has not only damaged boundary walls of the houses, but has also damaged banana and other trees of the people.

In his media reactions, Shyamacharanpur Anchalik Bikash Parishad president Joginath Mohanty complained, “A person has been trampled to death in Gobindpur area recently. On February 8th night, the elephant entered into the campus of Sai Mandir here and has damaged a lot of things. The pachyderm has also damaged the house walls of some residents, trees, etc. Our association secretary phoned me at 3 am and informed the matter. I immediately informed the forest department and the team also rushed to drive the wild animal away.”

He added, “However, the same elephant was noticed at the Sai Mandir area for 6-7 hours last night. The elephant squad of forest department had come and also guarded it. Yesterday, I had intimated the DFO. As he was out of station, he called me today morning and held discussion. The DFO assured me to take necessary steps to drive away the elephant from our area so that the people are no more in trouble.”
