Wildfire Smoke Blinds Drivers: Three Injured In Serious Road Accident

Baripada: Forest fire in the Thakurmunda region on Mayurbhanj – Keonjhar border led to a road accident on Sunday. The incident took place as the drivers of a car and an autorickshaw traveling in the opposite directions were blinded by smoke.

Two children sustained serious in the accident. A minor girl, Srimati Nayak was thrown off the auto into the flame and sustained burn injuries. Two others, Sumati Maharana (25), Pintu Maharana and the car driver Mumtaz Ali were wounded.

They have been admitted into Thakurmunda community health centre (CHC) and undergoing treatment.

The mishap occured on the Jualikata – Talapada road which passes through Khejuria jungle under Thakurmunda police limits.

According to reports, the two vehicles were trapped in the smoke that originated from the forest fire and collided head-on. The auto was coming from Raipada village while the car was being driven by a Thakurmunda-based businessman.

A case has been registered in this connection by local police.
