Bhubaneswar: Senior Biju Janata Dal (BJD) leader Kartik Pandian on Friday made an emphatic announcement that he will take ‘sanyas’ (retirement) from politics if Naveen Patnaik is not sworn in as Chief Minister for the sixth term with three-fourth majority on June 9.
Pandian made the announcement while addressing an election rally in Brajrajnagar Assembly Constituency under Bargarh Lok Sabha segment.
At the election rally, the senior BJD leader threw an open challenge to Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
“Will the Union Minister take retirement from politics if his party fails to form government in Odisha,” asked Pandian.
The BJD star campaigner said that the Union Minister had tried for 10 years to become a candidate from Dhenkanal but was scared at the time of filing of nomination and filed his nomination from Sambalpur.
“Now that the elections are around, opposition leaders have started visiting and are telling lies. After they take away your vote you won’t find them. They won’t make themselves accountable to you. During the last elections, they had promised to bring down prices. Has the prices of LPG, petrol and diesel reduced?” he asked.
He said that under the instruction of the Chief Minister, he has come here to give the accounts of the works done.
He said that the 50-60-year-old problem of the displaced persons of Hirakud has been resolved. As many as 2100 displaced persons from 18 villages of Brajrajnagar have been given land pattas (record of rights). He informed that Rs4.50 cr has been given for Maa Ramchandi Mandir of Brajrajnagar, Rs 3 cr for Koili Gughar Eco Tourism, Rs 30 cr for Lakhanpur ITI, Rs 10 cr for auditorium at Brajrajnagar, Rs 124 cr for piped water in 16 panchayats of Lakhanpur, Rs 30 cr for transformation of high school and college, he added.
He said 30,600 farmers in the constituency benefit under KALIA Yojana while 60,500 benefit under BSKY.
Paying tributes to the Late Naba Das in Jharsuguda, Pandian said that the late Naba Babu has contributed a lot to the development of Jharsuguda. Due to his efforts Cancer Hospital, and Heart Care Hospital have been established in Jharsuguda.
