Bhubaneswar: The weather may dampen the Durga Puja spirits with the Regional Meteorological department predicting moderate rainfall with scattered thunderstorm across several districts of the State for the next few days.
Bhubaneswar MeT Centre Director HR Biswas updated regarding upcoming weather predictions in the State. He said in next 24 hours North Odisha will receive moderate rainfall meanwhile it will be lesser in South Odisha. There is no prediction for heavy rainfall.
He said, “Warning for thunderstorm with lightning warning has been issued for Ganjam, Kandhamal, Nayagarh, Khurda, Dhenkanal, Cuttack, Khurda, Kendrapada, Balasore, and Mayurbhanj districts. This for next 24 hours.”
“There will a significant reduction of rainfall on October 1 and 2. But thunderstorm with heavy rainfall will be felt across the State on October 3 and 4. In this time period, the twin cities of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar will generally have cloudy weather accompanied by moderate thunderstorm and light to heavy rainfall, “ said Biswas.
Talking about the monsoon, the City MeT Director said, “Certain places in Bargarh district such as Batli, Gaisilat have received heavy rainfall in last 24 hours; but Nuapada district measured the overall highest rainfall.”
“Considering the rainy season of June till September, Odisha received 7 per cent more than usual rainfall. The State received 1233.2 mm this year in comparison to annual average of 1155.3 mm.”
“24 districts, including Balasore, received normal rainfall this year. Six districts of Bargarh, Ganjam, Jharsuguda, Puri, Koraput, and Sonepur received 20 per cent or more than usual rainfall,” concluded Bhubaneswar MeT Centre Director HR Biswas.
