Bhubaneswar: The felicitation ceremony of the award-winning Tribal Artisans of State Level Tribal Painting & Craft Competition was held at Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribes Research & Training Institute (SCSTRTI) here on Tuesday.
R Balalcrishnan, Chief Advisor, Chief Minister’s Office had inaugurated the Felicitation Programme. Ranjana Chopra, Principal Secretary, ST & SC Development, Minorities & Backward Classes Welfare Department, Prof. (Dr.) A.B. Ota, Advisor-cum-Director & Special Secretary to Government, SCSTRTI, Guha Ponam Tapas Kumar, Director ST, ST & SC Development Department and other dignitaries were present on the occasion.
As many as 146 Tribal Painting & Crafts of 124 tribal artisans had been recommended by ITDAs, & Micro Projects for selection at State level Tribal Painting & Craft Competition in SCSTRTI, Bhubaneswar.
Among 124 tribal artisans, 26 participated in Junior Group and 73 in Senior Group in Painting and 25 participated in craft category. All 124 tribal artisans belong to 25 Tribal Communities (including sub-tribe) of Odisha.
SCSTRTI, State Government, Central Government, with support from Ministry of Tribal Affairs has taken this innovative effort to promote and propagate the exclusive art and crafts of the tribal people of Odisha and to showcase their material culture embodied by indigenous knowledge system.
Entire 146 art & craft were scrutinized by a two-member Jury having expertise in the related field for selection of the best three positions of paintings and crafts in the Senior & Junior Group.
They highly appreciated the work of artisans and innovative effort of SCSTRTI in organizing this tribal talent search programme. It is expected that through this State level felicitation, the artisans will get exposure and will get an opportunity to better their livelihood.
