Jagatsinghpur: A woman and her 4-year-old daughter dies, while two others were injured in a road accident at Chasapada Square under Balikuda police limits in Jagatsinghpur district on Tuesday.
The deceased have been identified as Kalima Bibi and her daughter Alia Khatun.
The incident occurred when Muktar Khan of the Mulisingh area under Tirtol police limits was going to a nearby hospital on a scooter along with his daughter-in-law and two granddaughters. While they were passing the Chasapada Square a sand-laden truck hit them. Kalima and Alia were thrown off the scooter under the impact of the collision and fell on the road leading to their death on the spot. Muktar and his second granddaughter escaped with minor bruises.
As the news of the fatal accident spread, locals staged a roadblock and demanded that the authorities take measures to prevent accidents on the narrow stretch. Traffic in the area was disrupted for some time due to the road blockade.
On being informed, the inspector-in-charge (IIC) of Balikuda police station, Salil Pradhan along with a team reached the spot and held discussions with the irate villagers. The road blockade was lifted after this.
