Bhubaneswar: In a shocking incident, a 20-year-old woman was allegedly gang-raped by around 10 men at a secluded location on Gopalpur beach in Ganjam district, police said on Monday.
According to the police, the survivor, an undergraduate student at a private college, filed a complaint at the Gopalpur police station, following which a case was registered.
The incident reportedly took place on Sunday night. The woman, who resides in a private mess with three other female students, had visited the beach with her boyfriend, also her classmate, to celebrate the Raja festival.
In her complaint, she stated that while they were sitting in an isolated area, a group of 10 men approached them. The group allegedly restrained her boyfriend and took turns raping her.
Berhampur Superintendent of Police Saravana Vivek M. said, “At least seven persons suspected of involvement in the incident have been detained for questioning.”
