Bhubaneswar: A young woman allegedly committed suicide due to torture by her in-laws over the birth of a baby girl at Patharpura village under Jaleswar police station in Balasore district.
The deceased has been identified as Namita Pradhan.
According to reports, Namita’s husband, Ritesh Kamila, and his family members were accused of subjecting her to physical and mental abuse after she gave birth to a daughter. Constant torture led her to take the drastic step.
Ritesh, the third son of Pushpapriya Kamila, Vice Chairman of Jaleswar Municipality, was married to Namita, daughter of Jalandhar Pradhan, in a traditional ceremony about three years ago. The couple had a happy married life. Namita’s life took a tragic turn after she gave birth to a baby girl. Instead of celebrating the new addition, her in-laws allegedly subjected her to brutal torture, said sources.
Namita had confided in her parents about the abuse. The situation escalated when she was found hanging at her in-laws’ place around 10 am. Her family rushed her to JK Bhatt Hospital in Jaleswar, but sadly, the doctor pronounced her dead on arrival.
While the in-laws claimed that Namita had committed suicide by hanging herself, her parents alleged that she was subjected to torture and abuse by her in-laws due to the birth of a baby girl, leading to her death.
Upon receiving the news, the Jaleswar police promptly arrived at the scene, seized the body, and detained Namita’s husband, Jalandhar, and her uncle-in-law, Basanta Kamila, for questioning. The police have initiated an investigation to unravel the mystery behind Namita’s death.
