Berhampur: A woman was arrested by Berhampur Police on Wednesday for cheating Rs 7.5 lakh from a youth on the pretext of providing a job in Indian Railways.
The accused has been identified as JMS Prava (28) of Jhimani village under Abhayachandapur police limits of Jagatsinghpur district who is currently living at Saradhabali under B.N. Pur police limits of Ganjam district.
She has been accused of cheating S. Hitesh Patra (25) of Gobindapur under Sorada police limits of Ganjam district.
Patra was in search of a job when his friend Kartika Sahu of Sorada provided him with the name and address of Prava of Berhampur.
Subsequently, Patra met her near Sai Complex in Berhampur in June 2022. She assured him to get a job in Group ‘C’ post at Indian Railways if he paid Rs 11 lakhs.
Patra paid Rs 7.5 lakhs in various installment to get the job. Prava provided fake offer letter, ID card, appointment letter, and attendance card to him and demanded the rest amount of Rs 3.5 lakhs.
On Wednesday morning, she was apprehended red-handed while trying to get the balance money. She had cheated Patra by providing forged documents.
It is believed that Prava could have cheated more persons. Berhampur Police have asked people how have been cheated similarly to complain at the nearest police station.
