Rairangpur: A woman and her brother-in-law were critically injured in a leopard attack at Tarana village under Bisoi block in Mayurbhanj district on the intervening night of Tuesday and Wednesday.
According to reports, at around 2.30 AM on Wednesday Moyna Hansda of Tarana village which is very close to a forested area had come out of her home to attend to nature’s call when she was attacked by a leopard lurking in the darkness.
Hearing Moyna’s cries for help, her brother-in-law Dasarath Hansda rushed to save her from the grip of the leopard.
Leaving Moyna aside, the leopard attacked Dasarath. Hearing their cries for help, villagers rushed to the spot and were able to drive the leopard away to the nearby forest.
Both Moyna and Dasarath who were profusely bleeding were rushed to the Sub Divisional hospital here by 108 Ambulance Service.
While the leopard has chewed Dasarath’s palm, it has bit Moyna’s arm.
While the villagers are in panic after the incident, they have reported it to the Forest department.
A team of the Forest department is on a visit to Tarana village to conduct an inquiry into the incident.
