Berhampur: In a horrifying incident, a woman allegedly murdered her husband at Gopalpur Sahi in Talasar Panchayat under Beguniapada Police Station in Ganjam district in a fit of rage, claiming years of physical and mental abuse.
The accused, identified as Rina Bhuyan, reportedly killed her husband, Narayan Bhuyan (40), using a sharp weapon and bricks during a violent altercation on Tuesday night. She has been arrested.
According to reports, Narayan, originally from Biribatia village, had been residing with his wife Rina in Gopalpur Sahi following their marriage. The couple had two children—a 16-year-old daughter and a 12-year-old son.
While Narayan stayed at home with their son, Rina worked outside, which had led to frequent disputes. Narayan allegedly grew suspicious of Rina’s character, and tensions between them escalated over time.
The couple had a heated argument on Tuesday evening that turned violent. During the scuffle, Narayan reportedly fell onto a stone. In a sudden outburst, Rina struck his head with a brick, dragged him back into their house, and when Narayan attempted to grab an axe, she snatched it and attacked him fatally. She then allegedly continued to assault him with bricks, resulting in his death.
Police, led by Beguniapada IIC Bhagaban Pujari, arrived at the scene shortly after receiving the report. A scientific team was also deployed to collect forensic evidence. Purushottampur SDPO Deepak Kumar Mishra later visited the site to oversee the investigation.
Narayan’s mother, Nisha Bhuyan, lodged a formal complaint at Beguniapada Police Station, accusing Rina of the murder.
Based on the complaint, Rina has been arrested. Another person has also been detained for questioning in connection with the case.
The victim’s body has been sent for autopsy, and a thorough investigation is currently underway to uncover the full sequence of events and possible motives behind the crime.
