Khordha: A woman attempted to commit suicide by consuming poison on Saturday during the demolition of her house on encroached government land at Kochilakhai village of Deuli panchayat under Begunia tahasil in Khordha district.
The woman identified as Mita Patsani was initially rushed to the District Headquarters Hospital here and was later shifted to AIIMS-Bhubaneswar as her health condition deteriorated.
According to Mita’s husband Krushna Chandra Patsani they had constructed two rooms on government land adjoining to their land and were residing there with his family.
Krushna Chandra has said that two months earlier the Tahasildar had demolished one of the two rooms.
He said while the Tahasildar was about to demolish the remaining one room using an earthmover despite his wife Mita’s entreaties to spare it, losing all hope consumed the pesticide kept in their house for application on vegetable crops.
While Mita was suffering from convulsions under the impact of poison, she was rescued by the police and Tahasildar and rushed to the District Headquarters Hospital here. She was later shifted to AIIMS Bhubaneswar as her condition deteriorated.
