Baripada: A woman was detained on charges of child theft at District Headquarters Hospital at Baripada in Mayurbhanj district on Sunday. The woman, a resident of Jhinkaria village under Rasgobindpur police station in the same district, allegedly stole the children.
The incident occurred while the wife of Sheikh Kamruddin of Sungadia was undergoing treatment in the labour room, with their two kids by her side. When Kamruddin’s wife went to the nearby washroom, the woman took the kids to the fourth floor.
Upon returning, Kamruddin’s wife found the kids missing and alerted her family members. They searched for the babies and found them with the woman on the fourth floor. She was immediately handed over to the police, who took her into custody for questioning.
“The woman didn’t say anything. We don’t know her identity. When I found my kids missing, I immediately searched for them and found them with her on the fourth floor. I informed the security guard, who called the police,” Kamruddin said.
A complaint has been lodged with the police, and they are questioning the woman.
