Cuttack: A young woman allegedly took her own life after her intimate photos and videos were shared on social media by her boyfriend under Bhadreswar Police limits in Cuttack district.
The deceased has been identified as Indumati Sethi of Podamarai village.
According to reports, Indumati was in a relationship with a man named Anil from Goudagopa village. During their relationship, Anil captured intimate moments with Indumati. However, when Indumati later refused to marry him, Anil allegedly shared the private photos and videos on platforms like WhatsApp and Instagram.
This act caused immense distress to Indumati, leading her to take the extreme step of ending her life, her family alleged.
The grieving family claimed they had earlier raised objections to the relationship as Anil belonged to a different caste. Despite warnings and a mutual agreement at the local police station where Anil had promised not to contact Indumati or share her photos, he allegedly broke his promise.
“Anil not only defied his commitment but also shared the intimate content on social media, which deeply humiliated our daughter. Unable to bear the shame, she resorted to suicide. We demand justice and strict action against him,” said Indumati’s uncle, Sridhar Sethi.
Indumati’s father has filed a formal complaint at the Bhadreswar police station, demanding an investigation and the strictest punishment for the accused.
The police have registered a case and begun an inquiry into the matter.
