Cuttack: A women identified as Runubala Patra died at a private hospital here, late on Saturday night. The death of the woman, took place within 12 hours, after her son (12) and daughter (8) died, allegedly due to food poisoning.
The deceased woman was a native of Birabarpur village of Abhimanpur panchayat under Badamba police limits in Cuttack district. The family of four complained of nausea leading to vomiting on Friday night following which they were rushed to the local Community Health Centre and later shifted to a private hospital in Jagatpur.
The children, Rudra and Ruchika succumbed while undergoing treatment on Saturday morning. Their mother passed away around 12 hours later. Her husband, Govind Patra is still under treatment at the hospital.
According to reports, they had consumed ‘Chaat’ (savoury snacks, typically served at road-side stalls or food carts) on Friday. The family has levelled allegations that the chaat induced food poisoning among the members of the Patra family.
The local police is investigating into the allegations of Patra’s relatives.
